I’m not sure quite why I like this–it seems to me to break a lot of the established photographic rules, but there’s still something there. At dinner, Duncan and I were discussing how good photographs tell stories, and, looking at this, there is a story here. Whether it’s there for others, I’m not sure.

It’s a bit late to comment, I know, but I keep coming back to this picture and I’m not sure why. There’s a dreamy quality to it and Duncan almost looks as if he’s not quite part of the world he finds himself in. He appears to be in some sort of reverie but why is he standing in what seems to be the middle of a road or some sort of concourse. So yes, I agree with you that the picture does hint at a mysterious story and I like it very much.

I love photos that tell stories, though I don’t think all good photos need to. Duncan is waiting for someone, I’m sure of it, and he’s looking forward to seeing them.
